Trnava and Neighbourhood

Trnava became the first town in the area of today´s Slovakia, which was granted the privileges  of a  Royal Town by Hungarian king Belo IV in 1238 . The town was located in the middle of the ancient trade routes and it was also a place of the meetings of Hungarian kings. In the  13th century a  wall was built around the town in the area of  approx. 60 hectares. The historical importance of  Trnava increased in the 16th century when the Ostrihom archbishop had been  moved to  Trnava and the town became a cultural and theological centre of the country.

Today, thirteen historic  churches are the popular places of visiting by the tourists and a reminder of it´s rich history.Although the town has a small population of approx. 70000 people, it has a great importance in Slovakia even today mainly because of the strategic location only 45 km from the capital city of Slovakia Bratislava and  approx.100 km from the capital city of Austria Vienna.

In recent years International corporations such as  Citroën Slovakia, PSA Peugeot, Sam sung Electronics LCD Slovkia, have created their branches in Trnava region. Young people  have an opportunity to study at Slovak Technical University, Trnava University, or the University of St. Cyril and St. Method.
